The backing ring specially designed for use with polyethylene and polypropylene pipework systems. ScanTECH flanges are produced from ductile iron and are available in Galvanised, Epoxy coated and P.P Encapsulated.
The ScanTECH flange is designed for use with polyethylene and polypropylene stub flanges. Various configurations of the flange are available for use with many other piping materials.

About the ScanTECH Flange
Although ScanTECH backing rings are new to Europe, this highly successful design has been in extensive use in the USA and Canada since 1979. The technology of a profiled flange was invented in Germany in 1979 and they have since been used in different variations all around the world.
Here's how the ScanTECH flange is different
The comparitive weights of ScanTECH versus most conventional flanges show that for any given nominal pipe size the ScanTECH flange is lighter in weight due to its innovative geometry. This lightweight construction is made possible because the ScanTECH design is based on the common U-Profile, well known for decades.

ScanTECH flanges are easier to install because of their light weight but the design also reduces the need for bolt re-tightening due to the ability to store elastic energy like a 'Belleville Washer'. The flange preloads the bolts as they are tightened. The ScanTECH flange is produced from ductile iron GGG50** with 3.6% carbon content for improved resistance to corrosion. Stress factor analysis demonstrates that the ScanTECH flange provides a safety factor of TWO! Conventional backing rings cannot achieve this level of performance unless the thickness of steel plate used is impractical and uneconomical.
